IACONIA Intervention for Human Development Distributes Sanitary and Hygiene packs to Girls in Kachia LGA

In its commitment to addressing the health challenges faced by girls, the non-governmental organization *Iaconia Intervention for Human Development*—based in the U.S. and Abuja—distributed sanitary and hygiene packs to over 300 girls in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.  

The event, part of the NGO’s *Pad a Girl Child* program, coincided with the 2025 Children’s Day celebrations in Kachia. The special guest of honor, Mrs. Juliana Manzo Daniel Maigari, wife of the Kachia LGA executive chairman, urged parents to educate their adolescent daughters on menstrual cycles and proper hygiene management, emphasizing its cultural importance.  

Mrs. Maigari noted that girls in Kachia, like elsewhere, face significant health challenges, particularly due to limited access to healthcare services. She praised *Iaconia Intervention for Human Development* for its initiative in supporting girls, especially in rural communities.  

Earlier, Mr. Samaila Gaude, Director of Administration for *Iaconia Intervention for Human Development Foundation*, highlighted the organization’s humanitarian mission to uplift underprivileged communities and restore human dignity. He explained that the foundation’s work—spanning education, health, agriculture, and empowerment—honors the legacy of its late co-founder, Commodore D. S. Audu.  

Gaude added that the foundation’s programs include scholarships, vocational training for women and youth, and community service. He credited the vision of its founder, Ambassador Barr. Lami Audu, for driving its passion for women and youth empowerment.  

Among its achievements, the foundation has provided free medical care to over 5,000 people in urban and rural areas, awarded scholarships to 300 students, facilitated job opportunities for 50 youths, and supported 20 farmers with fertilizers and other inputs.  

Guest speaker Mrs. Helen Samuel Musa delivered a presentation titled "Managing Menstrual Cycle and Hygiene." She explained that menstruation, a natural process beginning between ages 12–14, requires proper hygiene to ensure health. She recommended sanitary pads, tampons, period panties, or menstrual cups, advising girls to change products every 3–4 hours and maintain cleanliness.  

For menstrual pain, she suggested warm water to ease discomfort and cautioned against unprescribed medication. Regular handwashing and proper disposal of sanitary products were also emphasized as key hygiene practices.
