COAS Calls for Unity in Bokkos, Vows to Crush Violence Perpetrators on Plateau

Bokkos, Plateau State – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on residents of Bokkos to unite in pursuit of lasting peace and security in Plateau State.  

Speaking at a town hall meeting with community leaders and critical stakeholders in Bokkos Local Government Area on Monday, General Oluyede emphasized that peace is the foundation for development and progress.  

“Security forces alone cannot eliminate threats without the cooperation of the people,” he stated, assuring that those responsible for recent attacks on defenseless civilians would be apprehended and prosecuted.  

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, issued a stern warning against further violence.  

“Any attack on innocent civilians, destruction of property, or acts of violence will be met with decisive force,” he declared.  

General Oyinlola stressed that while security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property, sustainable peace requires collective effort. He urged religious leaders, traditional rulers, and youth representatives to boldly denounce instigators of violence.  

Honourable Amalau Samuel, Chairman of Bokkos Local Government, commended the military’s efforts and expressed gratitude for the COAS’s visit. Leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, and women/youth groups also pledged their commitment to peace.  

The engagement marks a renewed push to end hostilities and foster reconciliation in the troubled Areas.
