Bassa Cultural and Development Union Nasarawa Chapter Gets Interim Leadership


Keffi, Nasarawa State– A new Interim Committee has been inaugurated to oversee the affairs of the Bassa Cultural and Development Union (BCDU), Nasarawa State Chapter, for the next six months. The committee, tasked with preparing the union for a smooth Congress and general elections, was sworn in during a stakeholders' meeting held at Cross Love Garden, Keffi, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.  

The meeting, chaired by Mr. Gwatana Huleji Dogwo, saw the appointment of Mallam Mohammed D. Zhokwo as the Interim Committee Chairman. In his post-inauguration address, Zhokwo expressed gratitude to the stakeholders and Advisory Committee for entrusting him with the responsibility and called for collective support to move the union forward.  

The newly inaugurated committee includes:  

- Jonah Tassa Auta– Vice Chairman  

- Pius Tawani Sheneni– Secretary  

- Mallam Rakiyat A. Zabutu – Treasurer  

- Jibrin Abdullahi Denda- Financial Secretary  

- Emmanuel Tukura Kure– Auditor  

- Jibrin Brama – Public Relations Officer  

Zhokwo pledged that his leadership would prioritize unity, accountability, and development, ensuring that the union’s activities benefit not only its members but also the broader Bassa community and Nasarawa State.  

“I will champion the smooth running of the union in Nasarawa State during this interim period,” Zhokwo declared. “Our leadership will foster stronger relationships and encourage the spirit of togetherness among our people.”  

He urged his committee members to uphold fairness and cooperation, stating, “Let us be our brothers’ keepers. May Allah grant us the wisdom to exhibit sportsmanship and dedication in serving our beloved community.”  

The interim administration’s primary task is to organize a credible Congress and elections within six months, setting the stage for a more structured and progressive union. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that the new team will bring much-needed cohesion and direction to the Bassa community in Nasarawa State.
