The Member of the National Assembly for Jema'a and Sanga Constituency, Honourable Daniel Amos, organized a breaking of fast (Iftar) dinner for Muslims and Christians in his constituency.
Speaking at the event, which held at his constituency office in Kafanchan, Jema'a Local Government, and also in Gwantu, Sanga Local Government, Amos called on all to live together in peace and harmony, irrespective of differences. The gathering brought together Muslims and Christians, political stakeholders, and security heads in a rare display of interfaith harmony.
Honourable Daniel Amos, who is the House Committee Chairman on House Services, emphasized that the Iftar was more than just a meal but also a symbol of unity and a reaffirmation of shared values.
“I had the honor of hosting my constituents for an Iftar dinner, bringing together people of different religious backgrounds and political affiliations, as well as security agencies, to share in the spirit of Ramadan. This gathering symbolizes our shared humanity and the need for peaceful coexistence,” he said.
The Legislator further spread the message of peace and solidarity, promising to continue organizing such events annually to promote unity and development in the constituency.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Jema’a Local Government, Peter Tanko Dogara, commended Amos for fostering unity through the Iftar, describing it as a significant step in strengthening community ties.
“It is heartwarming to see both Christians and Muslims breaking bread together at a time when both Ramadan and Lent are being observed. This is a commendable initiative that promotes peace and harmonious living,” Dogara stated.
Also speaking, the chairmen of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Malam Garba Alhassan and Venerable Emmanuel Markus, led prayers for continued peace in the constituency. They hailed Amos’ efforts in fostering religious tolerance, describing the interfaith gathering as unprecedented in the history of the constituency.
“We appreciate Honourable Amos for his unwavering commitment to inclusivity. This is the first of its kind in our constituency, and it shows that unity is possible when we come together with open hearts,” Markus said.
The religious leaders prayed for Amos’ success in his tenure and future endeavors, urging other leaders to emulate his example in bridging religious and political divides.
The Chief Imam of Jama’a Emirate, Alh. Muhammad Kabir Qassim, led the sunset prayer before the Iftar commenced. This initiative by Honourable Daniel Amos serves as a model for promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening community ties.
