Zamfara NSCDC Mourns Victims of Kaura Namoda Fire Tragedy: 17 Lives Lost, 17 Rescued

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire outbreak in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, which claimed the lives of 17 students and left 17 others severely injured.  

A delegation from the Zamfara State Command, led by State Commandant CC Sani Mustapha, visited Kaura Namoda to commiserate with the community. The team paid a condolence visit to the Royal Father, HRH Alh. Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad Asha, the Local Government Chairman, Alh. Munnir Mu'azu Haidara, and the primary victims of the incident, including school leadership, students, and parents.  

The fire, which occurred on Wednesday, engulfed a school, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. While 17 students were rescued, they sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though preliminary findings suggest traces of a possible source.  

In a statement, ASCI Umar Mohammad M., the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Zamfara State Command, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.  

"We grieve with you during this difficult time and pray that Allah grants you comfort. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," the statement read.  

Commandant Sani Mustapha urged citizens to exercise caution when using firewood, charcoal, or electric cooking appliances, emphasizing the importance of properly extinguishing fires to prevent future tragedies.  

As part of its support, the NSCDC provided financial assistance of one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000) to help cover the medical expenses of the injured.  

The Commandant also stressed the need for households, schools, and workplaces to be equipped with basic firefighting tools and knowledge to contain fire incidents before professional help arrives.  

"The NSCDC is mandated to safeguard lives and properties. Under my leadership, the Zamfara State Command is committed to raising awareness and preventing natural and man-made disasters through our Crisis Management Department," he stated.  

In his remarks, the Chairman of Kaura Namoda, Alh. Munnir Mu'azu Haidara, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC for their timely intervention and support. He praised the efforts of the Kaura Namoda divisional personnel in combating the fire and rescuing the surviving students.  

The Emir of Kaura Namoda, HRH Alh. Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad Asha, also commended the NSCDC for its professionalism and dedication. He urged citizens to seek assistance from the Corps whenever necessary, noting the strong relationship between the community and the security outfit.  

"The NSCDC Zamfara State Command has proven to be a reliable partner in ensuring the safety and security of our people. We appreciate their transparency and commitment to service," the Emir said.
