University of Jos Welcomes 67 International Students from 13 African Nations for 2024/2025 Session

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has admitted sixty-seven international students from thirteen African countries for the 2024/2025 academic session, marking a significant step in revitalizing its student exchange programme.  

According to a statement by Abdullahi Abdullahi, the institution’s Senior Deputy Registrar (Information and Publications), the newly enrolled students hail from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Niger Republic, Cameroon, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Togo, and Zimbabwe, among others.  

The students will pursue undergraduate degrees in diverse fields, including medicine and surgery, economics, history, international studies, computer science, law, criminology and security studies, nursing, accounting, business management, and pharmacy.  

During a welcome address, UNIJOS Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya reiterated the university’s commitment to fostering global relationships and enhancing its international presence through initiatives like the student exchange programme. He emphasized the importance of creating a multicultural and academically enriching environment for both local and international students.  

“The admission of these foreign students is a demonstration to the collaborative efforts of the university and its stakeholders. It is a significant milestone for UNIJOS,” Ishaya stated. 

He clarified that the students underwent the standard admission process, including sitting for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations and fulfilling other necessary requirements.  

The Vice-Chancellor also acknowledged the Rochas Foundation College of Africa for its pivotal role in encouraging the students to choose UNIJOS after completing their secondary education at the foundation.  

In his remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Chris Piwuna, expressed enthusiasm about the new additions to the university’s academic community. He urged the students to abide by the institution’s rules and regulations, emphasizing the importance of integrity and discipline throughout their academic journey.  

This development underscores UNIJOS’s dedication to promoting cross-cultural exchange and academic excellence, further solidifying its reputation as a leading institution in Nigeria and beyond.
