Senator Katung Distributes 30 Tonnes of Ramadan Relief Rice to Southern Kaduna Constituents

KADUNA, Nigeria — Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna’s Southern Senatorial Zone, has distributed 30 tonnes of rice to constituents as part of a Ramadan palliative initiative aimed at alleviating food insecurity during the holy month.  

The distribution, organized through a dedicated committee chaired by Alhaji Adamu Babaji, included **150 bags of 50kg rice, 200 bags of 25kg rice, 750 bags of 10kg rice, and 2,000 bags of 5kg rice**, totaling 30,000 kilograms. Babaji emphasized that the effort reflects Senator Katung’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Muslims and low-income families during Ramadan.  

“This is not just about feeding the fasting community; it’s about providing sustained relief to those facing financial hardship,” Babaji stated during the flag-off ceremony in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. To ensure fairness, sub-committees were established across Southern Kaduna’s eight LGAs, with local leaders tasked with overseeing transparent distribution to grassroots beneficiaries, including widows, orphans, and the elderly.  

Alhaji Iliya Kallah, Secretary of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Jema’a LGA, praised the gesture, noting its timeliness amid rising economic pressures. “Many families struggle to afford basic meals. This rice will significantly ease their burdens,” he said. Kallah also highlighted Katung’s consistent track record of providing Ramadan and Sallah palliatives, calling it “a mark of his inclusive leadership.”  

Alhaji Ali Fadi, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, echoed the sentiment, stating, “Senator Katung’s actions transcend politics. His focus on empowering the underprivileged through tangible support sets a benchmark for public service.”  

The event underscored the Senator’s broader welfare agenda, which prioritizes grassroots empowerment and equitable resource allocation in Southern Kaduna.
