Nigerian Northern Christian Professors Forum Cautions Against Negative Predictions for 2027 Elections, Urges Unity and Peace

The Nigerian Northern Christian Professors Forum (NNCPF) has issued a stern warning to religious, tribal, socio-cultural, and regional groups across Nigeria, urging them to refrain from predicting negative outcomes for the 2027 democratic elections involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  

The caution was conveyed in a press statement signed by the forum's President, Professor Katuka Yaki, and made available to journalists yesterday.  

In his statement, Professor Yaki emphasized the critical need for responsible conduct among Nigeria's diverse groups. He warned that speculative and negative predictions about the 2027 elections could fuel unnecessary anxiety and undermine national peace.  

The NNCPF also called on religious leaders to avoid preaching hatred or divisiveness against other faiths. The forum stressed that such actions could sow discord and exacerbate tensions in a country already grappling with religious and ethnic complexities.  

Professor Yaki highlighted the influential role of religious leaders in shaping public opinion, urging them to use their platforms to promote tolerance, understanding, and unity.  

"In the context of Nigeria's complex religious landscape, such warnings are crucial," Yaki stated. "Our history has been marked by periods of religious and ethnic tension, particularly between Muslims and Christians. By encouraging responsible behavior and promoting interfaith dialogue, the NNCPF aims to contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious society."

The forum's statement serves as a timely reminder of the importance of fostering unity and stability as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections. The NNCPF's call for restraint and constructive engagement underscores its commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
