Kaduna State Assembly Shake-Up: Three PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC, Praise Governor Uba Sani’s Leadership
In a significant political shift, three members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kaduna State House of Assembly have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing their decision to the outstanding performance of Governor Uba Sani.
The defectors include Henry Mara, representing Jaba State Constituency; Emmanuel Kantiok, representing Zonkwa Constituency; and Samuel Kamabai, representing Zangon Kataf Constituency. The lawmakers officially announced their move to the APC at their respective wards on Thursday.
This development follows closely on the heels of Amos Magaji, the member representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, who also defected from the PDP to the APC just two days prior.
The three lawmakers explained that their decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to align with the state’s ruling party, citing Governor Sani’s exemplary leadership and achievements. They emphasized that the political future of their constituents was paramount and expressed confidence that they could better serve their people under the APC.
Henry Mara, who also serves as the spokesman for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, declared that the PDP’s once-dominant influence in Southern Kaduna has significantly waned. He credited Governor Sani’s administration with restoring peace, security, and unity to the region, which he said has diminished animosity toward the ruling party.
“Governor Sani’s achievements have not only erased hostility toward the APC but have effectively ‘killed’ the opposition in the state,” Mara stated. He further hinted at a major realignment in the state’s power structure, predicting that more PDP members would soon defect to the APC.
Emmanuel Kantiok echoed these sentiments, noting that peace, which had been elusive in Kaduna for the past eight years, has been restored under Governor Sani’s leadership. He added that the PDP’s stronghold in Southern Kaduna has been disrupted by the governor’s credible and effective governance.
The defections mark a significant blow to the PDP’s influence in Kaduna State and signal a growing consolidation of power for the APC under Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
