A devastating fire swept through the Olusola Saraki Market in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Friday night, destroying goods worth millions of Naira. The blaze, which started around 9:36 pm, ravaged seven shops out of 269 in the market, affecting businesses such as meat vendors, clothing stores, and provision shops.¹
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire was likely caused by a power surge due to fluctuations in the electricity supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The Fire Service expressed sympathy for the affected shop owners and market leadership, hoping that their losses would be restored in multiple folds.
The incident highlights the importance of adopting fire safety measures to prevent such disasters. The Fire Service urged everyone to take necessary precautions to avoid similar incidents in the future.
