In his remarks, the Chairman of Kokona Local Government Area, Dr. Agbawu Mek Agbawu, said:
"I feel highly delighted to welcome and address you all at the flag-off of this empowerment programme, which cuts across the eleven electoral wards of Kokona Local Government Area.
It is important to note that this programme is paramount, as it will go a long way in alleviating poverty and creating wealth among our people in the rural areas.
Today, I am proud to say that this administration, under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, has made frantic efforts to ensure that human capital development remains the cardinal focus of his administration.
In like manner, all our successful programmes and policies were achieved due to the peaceful nature of the local government. I therefore urge you all to continue in that manner.
Today, the council will empower about 1,000 people from the eleven electoral wards with cash, motorcycles, packs of sanitary pads courtesy of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other items worth over ₦20 million.
Finally, I want to call on the beneficiaries to use these items wisely for their own progress, and to appeal to those who could not benefit this time to be patient, as their turn will come in the next phase."
Some of the beneficiaries who were interviewed expressed appreciation to the chairman for remembering them in this period of economic hardship, promising to make good use of the items and to continue to support the local government, the state government, and the ruling APC.
Highlights of the event included the symbolic presentation of the items by dignitaries and a demonstration on how to use the sanitary pads by health workers, among others.
