Nasarawa Governor Overhauls Cabinet, Dismisses Six Commissioners in Major Reshuffle

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has terminated the appointments of six members of his Executive Council with immediate effect, in a move aimed at reinvigorating his administration ahead of upcoming elections.

The dismissals were first foreshadowed by the Governor during his opening remarks at the State Executive Council meeting in Lafia. Shortly afterward, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN, formally announced the development at a press briefing following the session.

Addressing speculation that the entire cabinet would be dissolved, Governor Sule moved to calm tensions, stating: "Because of what we have been working on recently, I know there has been a lot of tension and a great deal of misinformation circulating—that we intend to dissolve the council today. We are NOT dissolving the council today—let me make that categorically clear. What we do intend to do, as usual, is carry out a few reshuffles here and there to strengthen our preparations for the work ahead and for the elections on the horizon."

The SSG later confirmed the relieved commissioners and their respective portfolios:

1. Dr. Tanko Ibrahim – Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism

2. Muazu Adamu Gosho – Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport

3. David Moyi – Ministry of Lands

4. Usman Baba – Ministry of Security and Sundry Matters

5. Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo – Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services

6. Gabriel Agbashi – Ministry of Science and Technology

Dr. Magaji explained that the partial cabinet shake-up is designed to inject fresh energy into the system by offering other qualified individuals the opportunity to serve the state. He assured that the affected members would still be considered for other roles in the future.

The SSG further confirmed that the names of the new appointees would be announced in due course.
