Rotary Club Gives 70 Desks to Plateau School to Boost Classroom Comfort

The Immediate Past District Governor of Rotary International, Rotarian Mike Ukachi Nwanoshiri, has donated 70 classroom desks to Government Secondary School, Lamingo, in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State, as part of efforts to improve the learning environment for students.

Presenting the desks to the school management, Nwanoshiri said the project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Naraguta and jointly sponsored by Rotary Districts 9127 and 3204, with support from the Rotary Foundation Grant for the 2024/2025 Rotary year.

He explained that the intervention was aimed at creating a more comfortable and conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning, aligning with Rotary International's core focus on basic education and literacy.

According to him, the provision of the desks underscores Rotary's commitment to supporting educational development and improving learning outcomes among students. Nwanoshiri appealed to the school's management and students to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure the furniture's longevity and attract similar interventions in the future.

Earlier, the President of the Rotary Club of Naraguta, Rotarian Afam Achoru, disclosed that the donation followed an appeal from the school for assistance. He noted that club members conducted an inspection and needs assessment before approving the project.

Achoru expressed appreciation to the Rotary districts and partners for supporting the initiative, describing it as a project that would positively impact students, parents, the school community, and society at large.

In her remarks, the Principal of Government Secondary School, Lamingo, Mrs. Abigail Dagak, thanked the international partners for finding the school worthy of the gesture. She assured donors that the school would ensure proper maintenance and protection of the furniture to maximize its benefits for students, while appealing for continued support to address other needs of the institution.

Representatives of the Plateau State Ministry of Education, community leaders, and the school's Head Boy also commended Rotary International for the intervention, calling it a significant contribution toward improving learning standards and complementing the state government's efforts in the education sector. They noted that the donation would provide students with a more conducive learning environment and enhance academic activities within the school.
