Nasarawa Bye-Election: Eggon Elders Demand Level Playing Field, Urge Mass Voter Registration

 Prominent Eggon elders and stakeholders have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for all political parties ahead of the forthcoming Nasarawa North senatorial bye-election and the 2027 general elections.

The call was made during an emergency meeting of Eggon leaders held recently at Esla Guest House in Akwanga.

Briefing journalists after the closed-door session, the group’s spokesman, Elder Ali Akpandam, said discussions covered governance, community challenges, education, economic empowerment, and the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by INEC.

"There is ongoing voter registration. We encourage our people to use this window to get registered because it will close by July. Any reasonable person should try to register," Akpandam said.

The elders expressed confidence in INEC’s capacity to conduct free, fair, and credible elections that will be acceptable to all parties. They also urged Eggon people to turn out en masse for both the senatorial bye-election and the 2027 polls.

"I want everybody to turn out and participate during the election. I want this election to be conducted in peace. INEC should be fair and conduct a credible election that will be accepted by all parties," he added.

Akpandam further appealed to Eggon sons and daughters worldwide to remain law-abiding and avoid acts that could tarnish the image of the ethnic group.

He noted that the meeting was a continuation of previous engagements held periodically to address issues affecting the Eggon community and find amicable solutions.
