The Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of Natives (PIDAN) Central Zone has issued a strong condemnation following the killing of at least 15 people, including security personnel, in Kawel Community, Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a joint statement signed by the Chairman, Alpha John Dakwak, and Secretary, Prof. Katkukah Danjuma Gokum, the group decried what it termed a "gruesome and senseless act of violence" that has plunged the community into mourning.

The attack, which reportedly occurred under the cover of darkness, has devastated multiple families and reignited fears among residents already living on edge due to persistent insecurity.

PIDAN expressed profound shock and sadness, emphasizing that the relentless targeting of innocent citizens seeking to live peacefully in their ancestral homelands is unacceptable.

"We strongly condemn this senseless act of violence and the continued attacks on innocent citizens whose only desire is to live peacefully in their ancestral homes," the statement read.

The organization extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government, and the entire state. "We pray that God grants eternal rest to the souls of the departed and comfort to all those mourning their loss," they added.

Beyond mourning, PIDAN issued a three-pronged call to action:

1. For Security Agencies: To intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.

2. For the Federal Government: To implement urgent and decisive measures that bolster security in vulnerable communities.

3. For the Plateau State Government: To collaborate with federal authorities to prevent further loss of lives.

"We call on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice," the statement urged. "We also urge the Federal and Plateau State Governments to take urgent and decisive measures to strengthen security in vulnerable communities."

According to PIDAN, the recurring cycle of violence across Plateau State poses a severe threat not only to lives and property but also to peace, development, and social cohesion. The group stressed that all stakeholders must work collectively to achieve lasting peace.

Reaffirming its solidarity with the Kawel community, PIDAN pledged to continue advocating for justice and the protection of citizens. "PIDAN stands in solidarity with the people of Kawel Community during this difficult period and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property across Plateau State,"
