Nalaraba Steps Down for Governor’s Choice, Sets Sights on Nasarawa South Senate Seat

The Member representing Awe/Doma/Keana Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, OON, has formally withdrawn from the Nasarawa State governorship contest and declared his intention to run for the Nasarawa South Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a press conference in Lafia, Nalaraba said the decision followed wide consultations with party stakeholders, constituents, and elders across the state. He described the move as guided by “wisdom, political maturity, and loyalty” to the APC and the collective interest of Nasarawa.

The House of Representatives member said he was aligning with Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the party’s preferred governorship candidate.

“As a loyal party person, I align myself totally with the decision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor. I hold the unity and stability of the APC above my personal ambition,” he stated.

Nalaraba stressed that his withdrawal was not born out of fear or lack of capacity, but rather a sacrifice to preserve the unity and progress of the party. “At critical moments of every political consideration, sacrifice and the corporate interest of the state must prevail over personal ambition,” he said.

He pledged to deploy his political structure and mobilise supporters across the 147 electoral wards, 13 local government areas, and three senatorial zones to ensure Wadada’s victory in both the primary and general elections. He also urged his supporters to join him in backing the governor’s choice.

Nalaraba, who holds the traditional titles of Sadaukin Lafia and Galadiman Keana, said his new senatorial ambition was in response to calls from stakeholders in Nasarawa South Senatorial District.

“I have listened carefully to the voices of my people and the appeal from stakeholders. I have resolved to offer myself for service to run for the seat of the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent my zone,” he declared.

He noted that his campaign structure would remain intact as a “movement of friendship and family” and would now be redirected toward the senatorial contest.

Nalaraba thanked members of the Nalaraba Campaign Organisation, ward and local government coordinators, women and youth groups, traditional and religious leaders, and thousands of supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices during his governorship bid.
