Youths Demand Accountability from Nasarawa North Lawmaker

Concerned youths in Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Federal Constituency have issued a fourteen-day ultimatum to their representative, Jeremiah Umaru, to provide a comprehensive breakdown of federal government intervention projects in the constituency.

The youths, in a communiqué signed by Comr. Saviour Luka Labeth, expressed disappointment and concern over the lack of visible implementation of projects worth over ₦6 billion allocated to the constituency in the 2024 and 2025 national budget.

The projects are drawn from publicly available federal budget records under the Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIP) and Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), spread across Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, and Wamba Local Government Areas, without visible implementation.

"We are not unaware that some projects fall under federal agencies and shared frameworks. But representation is not passive. It requires facilitation, tracking, supervision, and communication to ensure that constituents receive their fair share and are aware of it," Labeth said.

The youths demanded that Umaru provides a clear breakdown of constituency-specific benefits from multi-constituency projects, a verifiable list of completed projects and their locations, and a comprehensive public scorecard of his representation.

"We will insist on reviewing the scorecards of all aspirants, and only those who can clearly demonstrate capacity, integrity, and results will earn the confidence of the people to contest and represent us," Labeth warned.

The communiqué listed several projects allocated to the constituency, including the establishment of a Q Acquisition Centre in Akwanga, orientation and sensitization on unity and peaceful coexistence, and the supply of deep freezers, sewing machines, and grinding machines.

Other projects include the construction of culvert drainage bridges in Wamba, supply and establishment of a cassava processing plant, and rehabilitation of roads.

The youths also expressed concern over attempts to create the impression of project activity through superficial site engagements, describing it as "cosmetic site clearing" and not project execution.

"We consider it necessary to state clearly: cosmetic site clearing is not project execution. If there had been genuine intent and commitment to deliver these projects, particularly those approved as far back as 2024, they would by now have progressed beyond preliminary gestures to completion and commissioning," the communiqué read.

The youths called for an open town hall engagement where these matters can be addressed directly before the people, and warned that they will not be misled by surface-level activity that does not translate into completed, functional infrastructure.

"We urge that public resources must not be reduced to tools for political optics. Projects funded with taxpayers’ money are not campaign materials; they are obligations that must be delivered fully, transparently, and to standard," the communiqué added.

Earlier, the Convener of the meeting, Mrs. Grace Jacob Emmanuel, said the constituency project review meeting was intended to enable constituents assess the performance of their federal lawmaker after about three years in office, anchored on the need for accountability and feedback by leaders.
