Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two suspected gunmen during a coordinated ambush in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to a statement by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the operation was carried out on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, targeting criminal elements operating around the Marit axis of the LGA.
Military sources said the ambush was launched following credible intelligence on the movement of gunmen accused of terrorising communities through attacks, sexual violence, and armed robbery.
The troops engaged the suspects near Doruwa Babuje at about 7:49 p.m., sparking a gun battle in which two of the assailants were killed. Others escaped into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of a locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have since maintained their presence in Marit and neighbouring Lajam villages to prevent further attacks and reassure residents. Security forces say efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
