Nasarawa High Court Sentences Man to Death for Armed Robbery and Conspiracy

The High Court of Justice sitting in Lafia, Court 2, has sentenced one Ali Yakubu to death by hanging for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery itself.

Delivering the judgment after a protracted legal battle lasting several months, Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court found Yakubu guilty under the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act. The court held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The prosecution team was led by the Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Isaac A. Danladi, alongside other lawyers from the State Ministry of Justice.

In his ruling, Justice Aboki affirmed that the evidence presented clearly established the defendant’s culpability, justifying the maximum penalty under the law. Consequently, the court sentenced Ali Yakubu to death by hanging in line with the provisions of the Act.

After the judgment, the Attorney General, Barrister Isaac A. Danladi, praised the presiding judge for what he described as an erudite judgment. He expressed optimism that the ruling would serve as a deterrent to others who commit heinous crimes in the society.
