Joint Military-Vigilante Operation Kills 10 Terrorists, Seizes Weapons in Plateau

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE, working alongside local vigilante groups, neutralized several terrorists and recovered weapons during coordinated clearance operations in Plateau State.

In a statement, the operation’s media information officer, Chinonso Oteh, explained that the offensive—conducted under Operation WUTAN DAJI—targeted criminal elements in Daba and Seri villages, located within Wase and Kanam Local Government Areas.

Military sources said that at approximately 8:30 a.m. on April 9, 2026, troops established strategic blocking positions between Dutsen Zaki and Odare Forest, a known transit route for terrorist groups. During the operation, a large number of armed terrorists on motorcycles were spotted advancing along the corridor and were immediately engaged.

The troops responded with superior, coordinated firepower, overwhelming the attackers despite initial resistance. At least ten terrorists were neutralized, while several others fled into nearby forests with gunshot wounds.

In a separate incident, troops swiftly responded to reports of an attack on commuters along the Razat–Kafi Abu axis. Upon sighting security forces, the assailants retreated into surrounding areas, prompting an aggressive pursuit.

Subsequent cordon-and-search operations were carried out in Suma Suga and Takwok villages, extending into nearby mountainous terrain. This led to the recovery of items abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

Recovered items include three AK-47 rifles, three magazines, eight rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two motorcycles, and five 25-litre jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit believed to be intended for terrorist logistics. Troops also recovered a National Identity Card and a photograph linked to suspected members of the group, which are expected to aid ongoing investigations.

Military authorities described the operation as a major success in degrading the operational capacity of armed groups in the area. Troops remain on high alert and are continuing efforts to track down fleeing suspects and their collaborators.

They assured that Operation ENDURING PEACE will sustain intensified clearance operations across identified flashpoints to ensure the protection of lives and property in Plateau State.
