Chelsea handed suspended transfer ban and £10m fine for Abramovich-era financial breaches

Chelsea have been given a suspended one-year ban from signing new first-team players and fined £10 million by the Premier League for breaching financial rules during Roman Abramovich’s ownership.

The transfer ban has been suspended for two years, meaning Chelsea will still be able to register senior players provided they do not commit further breaches during that period. No sporting sanction, such as a points deduction, has been imposed.

The club has also received a nine-month ban on registering academy players, which takes immediate effect. The restriction applies only to youth players previously registered with another Premier League or English Football League club’s academy. It does not affect current players, international signings, or those registering on professional terms.

According to the Premier League, the academy ban also does not apply to players applying for their first registration at Under-9 level or younger.
