Southern Kaduna Holds Annual Prayer Summit, Stresses Unity and Vigilance

The 24th annual Southern Kaduna prayer summit convened on Saturday with a focus on community resilience, interfaith solidarity, and enhanced security measures for places of worship.

Organized by the Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association (SKCLA), the summit brought together religious and community leaders in Kafanchan, reflecting on recent challenges—including the abduction of 177 worshippers from three local churches on Jan. 18—and exploring pathways to peace and protection

In his address, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, Chairman of SKCLA, emphasized the sacred nature of worship spaces and called for proactive steps to safeguard them.

“We must take immediate measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring. It is essential that churches and mosques work together, implementing practical security plans while supporting government efforts to ensure safety,” Kure stated.

He urged youth organizations within religious institutions to collaborate in protecting their communities and appealed to authorities to expedite efforts to secure the release of those still held captive.

Kure also highlighted the role of economic development in fostering long-term stability, calling on Southern Kaduna’s elites to invest in industries that can provide employment opportunities for the region's youth.

In a message of solidarity, Daniel Amos, member representing Jema'a/Sanga Federal Constituency, praised Southern Kaduna’s resilience and potential.

Amos urged religious leaders to continue praying for Nigeria’s peace and unity, particularly as the nation prepares for upcoming elections.
