Plateau State Revenue Soars to Record ₦45 Billion, Sets Sights on ₦65 Billion for 2026

The Plateau State Government has announced a historic leap in its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), surpassing ₦45 billion in 2025—the highest figure ever recorded in the state.

Dr. Jim Wayas Pam, Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), revealed the milestone in Jos during a review of the agency’s performance from 2022 to 2025.

He stated that the service met 94 per cent of its revenue target for 2025, marking its most successful year since inception. Dr. Pam credited the achievement to comprehensive fiscal reforms and enhanced revenue collection systems.

While revenue compliance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies dipped from 100 per cent in 2023 to 70 per cent in 2025, Dr. Pam noted that full automation and the removal of cash payments have significantly reduced financial leakages.

Looking forward, the PSIRS has set an ambitious revenue target of ₦65 billion for 2026. Dr. Pam emphasized that the strategy will focus on broadening the tax base rather than increasing rates for already compliant taxpayers.

He acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in the mining sector and issues related to multiple taxation, but assured that new legislation and partnerships with local governments are being rolled out to streamline tax collection.

Dr. Pam reiterated the agency’s commitment to a non-punitive approach, encouraging voluntary compliance and alternative dispute resolution, while maintaining enforcement measures against persistent defaulters.

He reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to transparency, efficiency, and taxpayer-friendly policies aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth.
