Peace Above All: Nasarawa Governor Tasks Religious Leaders, Pilgrims on Unity Ahead of Holy Land Visit

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called on faith leaders to champion messages of peace, love, and mutual respect as essential tools for national cohesion and inter-religious harmony.

Speaking on Wednesday in Lafia during the send-off ceremony for the 2026 Christian pilgrimage to Jerusalem, the governor—represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, SAN—urged community influencers and opinion shapers to model tolerance and encourage inclusive living across religious lines.

“Our diversity is not a weakness but a divine design. We must embrace one another and work collectively for the progress of our communities,” Dr. Shuaibu said. “Let us continue to teach peace, demonstrate love, and embody the spirit of neighbourliness in all our interactions.”

Governor Sule congratulated the 191 pilgrims selected for the spiritual journey, describing it as a rare opportunity for personal reflection and deepened faith. He encouraged them to use the period for earnest prayers, particularly for continued peace and understanding among Nasarawa’s ethnically and religiously diverse population.

“Approach this sacred visit with sincerity and humility. It is a chance to draw closer to God and intercede for harmony, not only in Nasarawa but across Nigeria,” he said.

The governor also charged the pilgrims to uphold the nation’s image abroad by steering clear of unlawful acts such as drug peddling, theft, or abscondment. He further underscored the importance of prayers for the upcoming elections, expressing hope that their spiritual devotion would contribute to a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to religious inclusivity, Governor Sule applauded Pastor Alfa Yusuf, Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, for his efficient coordination and innovative improvements in pilgrimage management.

In response, Pastor Yusuf thanked the governor for fostering a climate of religious tolerance and for sustaining support to the board. He urged the departing pilgrims to remain grateful and represent the state with dignity.

The delegation’s leader, His Royal Highness Monday Toma Chaga—Chu Buh of Nakere in Wamba LGA—expressed profound appreciation to the governor for the comprehensive arrangements made for the trip.

“We will tour sacred sites in Jordan and Jerusalem, offering prayers for the peace, progress, and unity of Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole,” the monarch said. “We are confident this journey will leave each of us spiritually renewed.”

The event also drew solidarity messages from various stakeholders and well-wishers who gathered to honour the departing pilgrims.
