Nasarawa Women Affairs Commissioner Advocates for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Wamba

In line with the principles of the Nigeria for Women Program—aimed at expanding economic opportunities for women across the country—the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Hon. Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo, alongside the State Project Coordinator of the Nigeria for Women Program in Nasarawa State, paid an advocacy visit to the Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo (Rtd), at his palace in Wamba Local Government Area.

The paramount ruler welcomed the commissioner and her delegation, commending President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for initiating people-oriented programs designed to improve the lives of women in society.

Justice Nagogo noted that women remain among the most vulnerable groups and assured that the people of Wamba would actively participate in the program. He pledged strong support to ensure the initiative’s success both in Wamba and throughout Nasarawa State.

The Commissioner explained that Governor Abdullahi A. Sule has designated three local government areas—Awe, Nasarawa, and Wamba—as pilot LGAs for the program’s implementation in the state.

She emphasized that the Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services has collaborated closely with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to carry out the program.

The State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Halima Yusuf Shittu, outlined the program’s core objectives. She explained that the team will sensitize women on the importance of forming Women Affinity Groups, each consisting of 20–25 members aged 18 and above who have a means of livelihood.

Hajiya Shittu added that the team will visit all ten electoral wards in Wamba to recruit Ward Facilitators who will oversee these groups and help achieve the project’s goals. These facilitators must be at least 25 years old and hold a minimum of a secondary school certificate.

During the visit, the commissioner also stopped at Arum Sarki to encourage women to form groups so they can benefit from the government’s empowerment initiatives.
