Nasarawa Education Ministry Deepens Ties with Evaluators and Alternative Learning Centres

The Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, Dr. Khadijah Suleiman, has called on Chief Evaluation Officers (CEOs) to step up monitoring and supervision of schools across the state. During a high-level meeting, she also reassured the management of Second Chance Schools of her commitment to bolstering academic delivery and advancing educational opportunities for all.

Dr. Suleiman underscored the critical need for evidence-based evaluation, urging CEOs to submit timely and accurate reports that truly reflect the situation on the ground. She stressed that sincerity and professionalism are paramount to driving meaningful improvement in school performance.

In response, Abdullahi Angulu Bassa, Chairman of the CEOs Forum, reaffirmed the forum's support for the Ministry. He also requested enhanced resources and backing to enable CEOs to execute their mandate more effectively. Directors from the Departments of Schools as well as Planning, Research and Statistics reinforced the call to action, cautioning that “the days of excuses are over” and challenging the officers to rise to their responsibilities.

In a separate engagement, Dr. Suleiman welcomed a delegation from the management of Second Chance Schools in Akwanga. She expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for his sustained support of the institution, which equips out-of-school children—particularly young girls—with vocational and life skills to become self-reliant.

The Programme Coordinator, Dr. Augustina Alu, reiterated the school’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Ministry and noted that enrollment currently stands at over 300 trainees. The visit concluded on a warm note with the presentation of a decorative flower pot to the Permanent Secretary, symbolising goodwill and a shared commitment to partnership.
