Catholic Priest urges Nigerians to be shining examples for peace

Rev. Fr. Igene Japhet-Dannis, Parish Priest of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ombi 1, Lafia, Nasarawa State, has called on Nigerians to be shining examples of peace and uprightness wherever they are to ensure a peaceful country.

The Clergy who made the call in his homily on Sunday at the church, emphasised the importance of emulating Jesus' teachings of being the light and salt of the world. 

He painted a scenario where Christians are the reference points for corruption, mischief, vices and other negative things amongst family members, colleagues, and even the congregation, thereby leading to lack of peace, insecurity and lack of development.

"How can you still claim to be a Christian when all you know how to do is to steal, cause problems, and ensure that people do not find peace in your houses, offices, and in the community.

"As Christians, you must love unconditionally and be upright to show an example at all times as our Lord Jesus Christ told us.

"Just like the Biblical teachings, Christians must continue to maintain and sustain their roles as salt and light of the world," the Priest added.

The clergy further said that Christians are supposed to make positive impacts in their household, Church, Office, and community so that the people would be satisfied that things are working well because a believer is incharge.

He noted that Christians should desist from money rituals, human trafficking and other crimes,s as well as vices and prioritise productivity.  

"Our lives are supposed to be different from non-believers, and we should bring peace, unity and promote togetherness in society.

"There should always be happiness, peace, and laughter around you because that is what you represent.

"As a student, makertwoman, civil servant, artisan, professional in different field we should shine the light of God so that peace, love will flow everywhere and make the country a better place," he explained.

The Priest also urged Christians to be hospitable to others, respect constituted authorities and desist from sinning against God and breaking the laws governing the conduct of people in society.

He said Christian must sympathise and empathise as well as offer support to those who are mourning, sick, or are in serious financial challenges, facing depression to make their lives worthwhile and meaningful again.

He noted that Nigerians must begin to reward hard work, competency, and desist from nepotism, favouritism and undue favour to the country to work well again and for God to be happy with everybody. (NAN).
