Rivals Turned Allies: Mutfwang, Yilwatda Unite to Launch APC Digital Drive in Plateau

In a significant political development, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda stood side-by-side on Wednesday to launch the party’s electronic membership registration in the state, signaling a new era of collaboration aimed at fostering unity and accelerating development.

The joint flag-off, held in Dengi, Kanam LGA, and Langtang North LGA, drew large crowds and marked a symbolic closing of ranks following the 2023 gubernatorial contest. The event was framed by both leaders as a patriotic step to prioritize Plateau’s progress above past political differences.

Professor Yilwatda described the nationwide e-registration as a tool to deepen internal democracy and inclusivity within the APC. He extended a formal welcome to Governor Mutfwang into the party, stressing that their previous contest was based on platform politics, not personal enmity.

“This is the beginning of a new political consensus anchored on development,” Yilwatda stated. He expressed confidence that alignment between the state and the federal government would unlock greater opportunities for Plateau.

Governor Mutfwang echoed the sentiment, stating his decision to collaborate was made in the best interest of the state. He assured citizens that partnering with the national ruling party would bring tangible benefits, citing upcoming infrastructure projects and agricultural support for farmers in Kanam.

“We are taking our destiny into our own hands. This digital registration will translate our unity into measurable political strength,” Mutfwang said, urging widespread participation in the exercise.

Both leaders emphasized peace and issue-based politics, calling on their supporters to embrace the new partnership. The day included courtesy visits to traditional rulers in Kanam and Langtang to secure grassroots support for the registration drive.

The event was attended by key party stakeholders, including Plateau APC Chairman Hon. Rufus Bature, who all pledged commitment to the success of the exercise and the party’s strengthened presence in the state.
