NUC Accreditation Panel Assesses Degree Programs at Kaduna College of Education

A visitation panel from the National Universities Commission (NUC) has commenced an accreditation exercise at the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya.

The team, led by Professor Oyaziwo Aluede, was received by the College Provost, Dr. Aku Ambi, on campus. The institution currently runs degree programs in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Dr. Ambi stated that the college had undertaken extensive preparations in human resources and documentation for the assessment. He expressed confidence that the institution would receive a positive outcome.

The Provost also noted that the Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill enabling the college to award both degrees and NCE certificates independently. The bill is currently awaiting the governor's assent.

Dr. Jummai Tabat, Deputy Provost of Administration and Chairman of the college's NUC accreditation planning committee, confirmed that nine degree programs are being assessed.

In his remarks, Professor Aluede emphasized that the accreditation process is a standard quality assurance exercise, not a punitive measure.

“It is customary for the NUC to evaluate programmes periodically to ensure they meet global best practices,” he said. “We are here to assist the NUC in collecting relevant data for informed decisions. Ours is not a witch-hunt, but a thorough and fair assessment conducted according to established guidelines.”

He assured the college management that the panel would adhere strictly to the rules and maintain objectivity throughout the exercise.
