Ebonyi State Governor Announces #150, 000 as Bonus to Civil Servants, Reaffirms Election Neutrality

In a festive season announcement, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has authorized a special disbursement of ₦150,000 for every civil servant in the state. The Governor presented this bonus as a demonstration of his government's dedication to worker well-being, even amid financial challenges facing the state.

Nwifuru shared the news on Sunday during a service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki. He acknowledged recent reductions in state revenue but emphasized his administration's priority on supporting its workforce.

Shifting focus to upcoming local government elections, the Governor firmly stated that he has not endorsed any candidate and is committed to a fair electoral process. "The people's will is paramount," he declared. "They must freely select their leaders without any form of manipulation."

He also reiterated a standing order for political appointees aiming to run in the council polls to step down from their current roles, in strict adherence to electoral regulations. "Selecting chairmen is not my role," Nwifuru said. "Any appointee who is a candidate must resign as the law requires."

Additionally, the Governor addressed ongoing speculation about the pace of work on the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo (VANCO) Flyover, a flagship infrastructure project. He defended the project's progress, highlighting its complexity and scale. "The technical demands of this construction are significant," Nwifuru explained, claiming that such an undertaking is currently unmatched elsewhere in the country.
