35,013 People Registered for CVR in Nasarawa State – REC

Dr. Shehu Wahab, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State, has announced that 35,013 persons have so far registered during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.

The REC stated this at a news conference on Monday in Lafia, revealing that as of Sunday, December 7, 2025, the registrations were recorded across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

He explained that the first quarter of the CVR exercise, which lasted for four months, began on August 25 and will end on December 10.

A breakdown of the figures shows that 16,122 (46.05%) of the registrants are male, while 18,891 (53.95%) are female.

Wahab further noted that out of the total, 317 are Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), while 28,324 youths are registered across both genders.

Within the period under review, 16,941 persons applied for transfer of voter registration, 9,212 applied for updates of voter information, and 6,119 applied for replacement of damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

"These figures are provisional because we will soon undertake the automated biometric identification system clean-up process to identify and remove all invalid registrations, including multiple registrations, to come up with a credible and clean register of voters," he said.

He added that the current voter register for the state stands at 1,899,244, with 1,847,752 PVCs collected.

"After the conclusion of the CVR and clean-up exercise, we will display the preliminary register of voters for claims and objections for scrutiny with a view to updating and producing an authentic voter register for the state," Wahab explained.

The REC also announced that the commission will resume the second phase of the CVR on January 5, 2026, to ensure every eligible person in the state is registered ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He, however, noted a decline in turnout for the continuous registration from the first to the fourth week.

Wahab appealed to those who wish to register or update their records to visit the INEC headquarters in Lafia or its offices in the 13 LGAs on December 10 or from January 5.

The REC assured that INEC would consider opening registration centres at the electoral ward level during the second phase to enable broader participation. (NAN)
