Nasarawa State, Society for Family Health Partner to Expand Clean Water Access

 In a strategic move to improve water supply across the state, the Nasarawa State Government, through the State Water Board, is strengthening its partnership with the Society for Family Health (SFH).

The collaboration is under the "WASH for Healthy Lives" program, which aims to provide safe and clean drinking water to vulnerable communities. The General Manager of the Nasarawa State Water Board, Dr. Kana Ahmad Abubakar, reaffirmed the government's commitment during a mid-term stakeholders update meeting held at Paradise Hotel in Lafia.

The meeting was convened to review the progress and achievements of the program, which has been actively improving water supply quality in select Nasarawa State communities since 2022.

So far, the Society for Family Health has implemented the project in four local government areas: Karu, Nasarawa, Obi, and Toto. Due to the significant impact recorded in these areas, Nasarawa State has been selected for the program's fourth phase.

A key component of this next phase will be the drilling of solar-powered boreholes in communities across the state. The program is scheduled to run through March 2026.

Nasarawa is one of only two states in the federation, alongside Edo State, where this specific program is being implemented.

Contributing to the discussions, stakeholders from the water sector and urban sanitation pledged their continued commitment to the initiative, emphasizing its role in improving the well-being of vulnerable households in rural communities.

Dr. Abubakar underscored the importance of such partnerships, stating, "This collaboration is vital to bringing the needed solutions and sustainable water supply to the citizenry of Nasarawa State."
