Southern Kaduna Coalition Appeals to Senator Katung, Hon. Amos for Political Realignment

A coalition of political support groups, instrumental in the 2023 electoral campaigns, has appealed to Senator Sunday Marshall Katung of Kaduna South Senatorial District and Hon. Dan Amos of the Jema'a/Sanga Federal Constituency to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appeal was made during a meeting in Zonkwa, where the coalition, led by Surveyor Samson Maikano, presented a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to the lawmakers. The document urged them to "align with the centre" to secure greater dividends of democracy for the region.

Speaking after the meeting, Maikano stated that the push for realignment stems from satisfaction with the lawmakers' performance and a desire to accelerate development in Southern Kaduna through a stronger relationship with the federal government.

“We have urged the Senator and House member to join the ruling APC for better access to the centre,” Maikano explained. “This alignment is crucial for attracting development and speeding up growth in our region. We cannot afford to continue losing out due to differences in political affiliation.”

He cited historical precedent, recalling that past alignment with the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had brought significant development to Southern Kaduna. “We have drawn inspiration from that example in making this call,” Maikano added.

The coalition leader also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving key federal projects and appointments in the region, such as the University of Applied Sciences in Kachia and the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, despite its limited support for the APC in the last election.

“These are clear signs that if we give President Tinubu bloc votes in 2027, we will have more to show for it,” Maikano stated.

He concluded by reaffirming the coalition's support for Senator Katung, describing him as “a credible and passionate representative,” regardless of his final decision on their appeal.
