Tambuwal Urges El-Rufai to Comply with Police Invitation

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has called for former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to honor an invitation from the Nigerian police, emphasizing the critical need to respect the country's constitutional institutions.

Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor who now represents Sokoto South in the Senate, offered this counsel during a Friday night appearance on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today.’ He stated that as a law-abiding citizen, he would not hesitate to comply if he himself were summoned.

Citing his extensive legal and legislative experience, Tambuwal explained his position: “As a lawyer with 32 years of experience, a life bencher, and someone who has served in the National Assembly for over a decade, I believe in the rule of law. Any individual invited by a constitutional authority like the police should present themselves. I would therefore advise my brother and friend, El-Rufai, to respond to the invitation.”

He further cautioned against assigning undue significance to the summons, arguing that the proper procedures must be allowed to unfold without interference. “If I were invited by the police for an investigation today, I would go. Interpreting or reading meaning into the invitation is an entirely separate matter. We are in interesting times, and the police must act with great circumspection moving forward,” Tambuwal concluded.
