Senator Lalong Hails Naanlong Daniel’s Election as Plateau Assembly Speaker, Urges Unity
Senator Simon Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, has congratulated Hon. Daniel Naanlong on his election as the new Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly following the resignation of former Speaker Gabriel Dewan.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Makut Macham, Lalong described Naanlong’s emergence as the beginning of a new era for the Assembly, noting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has rightfully assumed leadership in line with democratic principles.
The former Plateau State governor urged the new Speaker to foster unity within the House and swiftly commence legislative duties, ensuring effective lawmaking and oversight for the benefit of the people.
Lalong, who holds the record as the longest-serving Speaker in the state’s history, called on all members to support Naanlong’s leadership and work together to address pending legislative matters.
He also assured the new Speaker and the Assembly of the APC’s full support at both state and national levels, emphasizing that the party’s focus remains on good governance and delivering democratic dividends—not on impeachment or destabilization, as falsely speculated in some quarters.
The senator wished Naanlong a successful tenure and expressed confidence that he would lead the Assembly to uphold the APC’s legacy of service.
