Taraba Poly Vows to Block Political Meddling in Staff Recruitment

Dr. Abubakar Jugulde, Chairman of the Governing Council of Taraba State Polytechnic, has attributed the institution's generally poor standards to past political interference in staff recruitment. He declared the council's determination to resist any attempts by politicians to hijack the upcoming recruitment process.

Speaking about the proposed recruitment, the former lawmaker revealed that a memo seeking the governor's approval to begin the process is currently pending.

Jugulde lamented that due to political influence in previous recruitments, unqualified staff were hired. He stated this directly contributed to the non-accreditation of certain courses by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

"The influence of politicians was responsible for the poor standard of the school," Jugulde stated. "You saw NCE holders and even those with lesser qualifications being recruited. This time around, we will make sure that the politicians don't hijack the recruitment process."

He also acknowledged that a lack of facilities and the need to upgrade existing ones were key reasons for the institution's overall non-accreditation by the NBTE.

"Accreditation was not granted because the school has not met the conditions set by the NBTE. Facilities need to be put in place or upgraded," Jugulde explained.

Established in 1991, Taraba State Polytechnic remains one of the state's oldest tertiary institutions. Despite this, it is among the most neglected by the government, a factor significantly contributing to its persistently low standard.
