FG to Convert Gomwalk House into Digital Outsourcing Hub to Empower Youths

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a future-ready workforce by prioritizing technical training and digital job creation for Nigerian youth, who account for nearly 70% of the country’s population.  

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, disclosed this during an inspection visit to the Joseph Gomwalk House—also known as the Standard Building—in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday. 

He revealed that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration plans to transform the historic structure into a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Hub, a move aimed at boosting youth employment and advancing Nigeria’s digital economy.  

“The President has directed us to drive inclusive programs that equip young Nigerians with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the global digital economy,” Tijani stated.  

One of the key initiatives under this directive is the  Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, which is already training millions of Nigerian youths in critical digital and technical skills.  

During his visit, the Minister assessed the facility’s potential for conversion into a modern workspace for companies outsourcing digital roles.  

“Our goal is to collaborate with the Plateau State Government to refurbish this iconic building and turn it into a hub where businesses can hire young Nigerians for high-value digital jobs,” Tijani explained.  

Accompanying him on the inspection were Plateau State’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Cletus Shurkuk and Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Sylvanus Dongtoe.  

Ramnap expressed gratitude for the initiative, stating, “We appreciate the Minister for prioritizing Plateau State. Our team also had the opportunity to interact with some of the youths he has previously empowered, and this project is undoubtedly a step in the right direction for our state.”  

The conversion of Gomwalk House into a BPO hub aligns with the federal government’s broader agenda to position Nigeria as a competitive player in the global digital economy while tackling youth unemployment.
