Nigeria Governors’ Forum Visits Plateau, Calls for Unity Amid Tragic Attacks

Jos, Plateau State– The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, led a delegation to commiserate with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State over the recent attacks that claimed over 100 lives in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.  

The delegation, received by Governor Mutfwang at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, Jos, on Thursday, expressed solidarity with the victims’ families and commended security agencies for preventing further escalation.  

Speaking during the visit, Governor AbdulRazaq said "On behalf of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the people of our states, I extend our deepest condolences over the tragic loss of lives. We urge leaders and influencers across Plateau—including youth leaders—to unite behind Governor Mutfwang in fostering peace. Violence has no place in our society; differences must be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding.”

He emphasized Plateau’s vast potential in agriculture and tourism, warning that persistent insecurity could undermine development. *“We commend Governor Mutfwang’s leadership during this difficult time. Our visit reaffirms our solidarity with Plateau, and we pray for the repose of the victims’ souls and the restoration of peace,” he added.  

In his response, Governor Mutfwang thanked his colleagues for their support and called for a united national approach to insecurity. *“This is not just a Plateau problem—it is a national crisis. We must address our porous borders, which enable criminal elements to infiltrate our communities,” he stated.  

Mutfwang stressed the need for Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious divisions, urging citizens to collaborate in reclaiming the country from violence. *“We must work together, share intelligence, and tackle the root causes of these conflicts. Only through unity can we secure a safer future,”* he said.  

The governors’ visit underscores the growing concern over insecurity in Nigeria, with calls for stronger intergovernmental cooperation to restore stability.
