Nasarawa State Governor Praised for Unprecedented Investment in Education

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John D.W. Mamman, has lauded Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for his unwavering commitment to transforming the education sector, calling it a cornerstone of his administration’s agenda.

Dr. Mamman’s praise came during the presentation and distribution of instructional materials to 29 Chief Evaluation Officers and leaders of private school proprietors, who will oversee their distribution to schools across the state. The event was held at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Lafia.

In his address, the Commissioner highlighted Governor Sule’s consistent allocation of over 30 percent of the state’s annual budget to education—surpassing UNESCO’s recommended 26 percent—since taking office six years ago. He described this as a testament to the governor’s dedication to improving educational standards in Nasarawa State.

"Today, we celebrate another significant step in our mission to provide quality education for the people of Nasarawa State. These instructional materials are designed to enhance teaching and learning, ensuring our students have the tools they need to succeed," Dr. Mamman said.

He urged Chief Evaluation Officers and school principals to ensure the materials are distributed fairly and used as intended, stressing that they are not to be sold or misused.

Mr. Christopher Ogiri, Director of Senior Secondary Schools, emphasized the critical role of instructional materials in boosting academic performance. He revealed that Governor Sule had personally approved the procurement and distribution of these resources to support effective teaching across the state.

Othman Isa Agwai, Director of Basic Education, also expressed gratitude to the governor, assuring him that the materials would be utilized effectively to benefit students and teachers alike.

Representatives from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) and the Association of Private School Owners (APSON) in Nasarawa State praised the governor for his inclusive approach. They noted that this was the first time private schools had received such support since the state’s creation, calling it a historic and transformative gesture. They pledged to work closely with the government to further elevate educational standards in the state.

The event underscored Governor Sule’s commitment to education as a key driver of development, with stakeholders expressing optimism about the future of learning in Nasarawa State.
