Federal Medical Centre Kafancham to Commence Operations in 6 Months: FG

The Federal Government has announced that the newly established Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, is set to begin clinical services within six months. 

Dr. Jimoh Salawudeen, Director of Hospital Services at the Federal Ministry of Health, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the Kafanchan General Hospital, which is being upgraded to a Federal Medical Centre. 

Dr. Salawudeen was accompanied by Amos Gwamna Magaji, the member representing Jaba/Zangon Kataf Federal Constituency, who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the FMC, and the newly appointed Chief Medical Director of the Centre, Dr. Haruna Abubakar.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the existing infrastructure, equipment, and personnel at the General Hospital and identify areas requiring improvement before the facility becomes operational.

"To be honest, a lot of groundwork has already been laid for the take-off of this Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan," said Dr. Salawudeen. 

"From what we have seen here and the potential for expansion, the ministry is satisfied, and we are ready to proceed. We will immediately begin addressing the gaps identified during this inspection. Additionally, we will ensure that staff are properly assessed and placed according to their latest qualifications," he added.

Dr. Salawudeen also revealed that budgetary provisions have been made for 2025 to ensure the smooth take-off of the institution. He commended Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for the ongoing renovation work at the General Hospital, noting that it would reduce the financial burden on the Federal Government.

In his remarks, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji described the establishment of the FMC as a dream come true for the people of Southern Kaduna. He emphasized that the facility would bring critical healthcare services closer to the people and create job opportunities for residents.

"Previously, patients with critical health conditions had to be referred to Jos, Kaduna, or Keffi. Now, with this facility, referrals will be much closer. If you were spending N10,000 to travel to those places, you will now spend significantly less," Magaji said.

The lawmaker also praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre, describing it as a demonstration of the President's responsiveness to the needs of the people.

Similarly, the newly appointed Chief Medical Director, Dr. Haruna Abubakar, pledged to transform the institution into a centre of excellence. He called for the support and cooperation of the community to achieve the goals of the facility.

The establishment of the Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the region, providing accessible and affordable medical services to residents.
