Edo State Takes Action Against Vigilante Groups, Arrests 14 Over Uromi Incident

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating in the state. 

This move follows a disturbing incident in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, where some travelers were brutally killed.

The governor also suspended the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.), pending further investigations. According to the Secretary to the Edo State government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the local vigilante group involved in the killing was operating illegally and its actions do not reflect the core values of the Okpebholo administration.

Investigations are ongoing, with 14 persons arrested so far, and a special team set up by the Inspector General of Police is working to apprehend others involved in the killing.

 The Edo State government has reassured citizens of their right to move freely and engage in lawful business, and is working closely with the families of the victims, community leaders, and the Government of Kano State.
