Senator Lalong Joins Mourners to Honor Late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni at Tribute Service

Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, was among the hundreds of mourners who gathered at the Ecumenical Christian Centre in Abuja to honor the late Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni during a service of tributes.

Senator Lalong, who also represented former President Muhammadu Buhari at the event, described General Useni as a man who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria, both in his distinguished military career and his subsequent civilian endeavors. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Makut Macham, Lalong emphasized that the late General remained deeply committed to the Nigerian project until his passing, tirelessly working to improve the lives of many, particularly the weak and vulnerable in society.

“General Useni was a man of conviction and integrity, qualities he demonstrated in both his military and political roles. His compassionate heart and selfless service endeared him to many,” Lalong said.

During the service, Rev. Prof. Pandam Yamsat, former President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), delivered a sermon drawing from Psalm 19. He highlighted the life of General Useni as a testament to the virtues of simplicity, service, and humility. “The lessons from his life and death remind us that no matter how high one climbs in life, there comes a time when we must all account for our deeds before God,” Yamsat said.

Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, President of COCIN, also paid tribute to the late General, noting his unwavering support for the church and its members. He revealed that General Useni had given his life to Christ before his passing, a testament to his faith and spiritual journey.

John Cardinal Onaiyekan, who led other clergy in prayers for the Useni family, acknowledged the General’s numerous contributions to society. He prayed for God’s mercy and eternal rest for the departed soul, urging the family to uphold his legacy of service to humanity.

The service concluded with a call for Nigerians to emulate General Useni’s life of integrity, service, and compassion, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations.
