Group Urges Gov. Dauda to Abandon Alleged Plan to Relocate Zurmi School of Nursing to Gusau

The Association of Zurmi Youth Contact and Mobilization in Zamfara State has appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal to abandon the alleged plan to relocate the Zurmi School of Nursing and Midwifery to Gusau, citing insecurity as the reason.  

The Vice Chairman of the association, Comrade Abba Modibbo, made the call during an interview with our correspondent in Gusau on Monday. He emphasized that the appeal is crucial, given that Zurmi Local Government, located in the Zamfara North Senatorial Zone, has long been neglected in terms of developmental projects that could directly benefit the people in the area.  

Modibbo stated that the alleged relocation plan, which is currently trending on social media, suggests that the state government has finalized arrangements to move the school to Gusau, the state capital, due to insecurity in Zurmi.  

"Insecurity is a global challenge, and it is unjustifiable to relocate our long-awaited school to another part of the state under the guise of insecurity," he said.  

He urged the authorities to implement adequate measures to address the security challenges rather than relocating the school. Modibbo also highlighted the lack of basic amenities in Zurmi town, the headquarters of Zurmi Local Government, which has been without mobile network coverage, electricity, and portable drinking water for over a decade.  

"For over seven years, we have been without electricity. Last year, our MTN mast antenna was vandalized by armed terrorists, and we have spent more than ten years without access to clean drinking water. We urge the state government to urgently address these issues for the betterment of our community," he stated.  

Comrade Modibbo reiterated that the association remains committed to being law-abiding citizens and supporting the government in its efforts to develop the state.  

Efforts to reach the Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Alhaji Wadatu Madawaki, for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone line was unreachable at the time of compiling this report.
