14 Injured as Cattle-Laden Trailer Crashes in Jos, Causing Major Traffic Disruption

A road traffic crash involving an articulated vehicle (trailer) carrying both passengers and cattle occurred at the Secretariat Junction in Jos Metropolis, Plateau State, on Thursday night.  

In a statement signed by Corps Commander Maxwell Lede, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, authorities confirmed that no fatalities were recorded. However, fourteen people sustained varying injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.  

The trailer, a commercial vehicle painted red, blue, and white with plate number NSK523ZY, was traveling from Adamawa to Lagos. It reportedly crashed at approximately 11:05 PM on February 27, 2025, while carrying 32 passengers, including the driver, Muhammad Mandir Yusuf. The accident disrupted traffic flow on the outward service lane connecting the Secretariat to the expressway. The left lane near the roundabout under the flyover was also partially blocked, narrowing the roadway.  

Lede explained that the affected section of the road remains temporarily closed to traffic. Vehicles from the Secretariat are being redirected to use the left lane only to access the roundabout. FRSC and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) personnel are managing the scene to prevent secondary crashes and gridlock, with clearance efforts underway to restore normal traffic.  

Preliminary investigations suggest the crash was likely caused by speeding and reckless driving. The injured victims were taken to Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Bingham University Teaching Hospital, and Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for medical care.
